Uncovering The Truths Behind CBD

So, you’re curious about all the buzz around CBD, huh? Well, you’re not alone! Maybe you’re wondering what exactly CBD is, how it might impact your health, its general effectiveness, or its relation to its distant and infamous cousin, marijuana. Well, we’re here to clear the air and unravel the mysteries of CBD and its benefits! 

We recently had an enlightening training session with the owner of CauseMedic, a CBD product line that we’ve introduced to the spa. We’re so excited to share all of the incredible insights that we’ve gained around the fascinating topic of CBD! Let’s get into it!

First things first, what exactly is CBD? CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis plants, just like hemp or marijuana. Before you freak out – no, CBD won’t get you “high”. Unlike THC, which is the psychoactive part of cannabis that produces a “high”, CBD is often used and known for its therapeutic and pain-relief benefits. 

CBD comes in many different forms including, but not limited to, oils, topical creams, capsules, edibles, etc. In fact, our bodies naturally produce a form of CBD called cannabinoids – specifically endo-cannabinoids. There is still ongoing research surrounding the production of cannabinoids in the human body, however, studies have shown that these endocannabinoids are displayed and dispersed throughout the body in higher concentrations during practices such as prayer or meditation. So, whether you’re meditating, praying, or simply looking to enhance your wellness routine, your body is already in on the CBD game without you even knowing it!

Recent studies have also shown that there is a relatively small system in our bodies known as the endo-cannabinoid system which plays a key role in regulating homeostasis. Now, in case you’ve forgotten your 5th grade science lesson, homeostasis is the delicate balance between all of our body’s systems. The endocannabinoid system is like the body’s internal messenger, ensuring these systems communicate and function harmoniously (cue the “oohs” and “aahs”). This system is comprised of a series of receptors located on the outside of the cell wall with certain areas of the body, like the front of your neck or the base of your skull, having a higher concentration. Cool, right?

Now that we’ve laid the foundation and you know more a little more about CBD and the part it plays in our bodies, let’s dive deeper into the benefits and how CauseMedic products stand out from the rest!

1). Anti-Inflammatory Benefits

Even if you’re new to the world of CBD, you’ve likely heard the craze behind its powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. CBD is best known to help fight and manage inflammation which makes it a go-to product to treat issues like psoriasis and eczema and even internal issues like gut inflammation. Remember those receptors we mentioned earlier? CBD will bind to those receptors, signaling to the body’s immune system to produce more of the bio-chemicals that are associated with anti-inflammation to ultimately bring relief. 

However, for some issues, CBD isn’t a magic pill – consistent use is key to experiencing its full benefits. There are other issues, however, where you can experience immediate, although temporary, results with most topical CBD products providing up to 5 hours of relief to help aid in pain management. 

2). Anxiety-Reducing

Besides its anti-inflammatory benefits, CBD is also widely known to aid in relaxation and help manage anxiety. CBD does this through boosting production of serotonin in the body. The result? An overall soothing and natural sense of relaxation benefit that flows through your entire body.

As we mentioned before, CBD comes in many forms but not all products are created equal—especially when it comes to bioavailability, or how much of the product actually gets absorbed by your body. Topical CBD, for example, is only about 10-15% bioavailable, meaning up to 85% of what you apply could go to waste. CBD is fat-soluble, which means it naturally struggles to penetrate the skin’s first layer. This is where CauseMedic products stand out. Unlike most brands that use fat-soluble forms of CBD, which can be ineffective on the skin, CauseMedic’s products are water-soluble. This makes them six times more bioavailable, allowing them to absorb through the deeper layers of your skin, ensuring you get the full benefits of CBD without the waste.

CauseMedic has truly set a new standard in the CBD industry by not only ensuring the bioavailabilty of their products but also by starting their own CBD farm to ensure their products were void of any contaminates or carcinogens. CauseMedic’s founder and CEO, Hugh Huffaker, shared some insights with us about his journey in sourcing pure CBD when he first launched the brand:

“We had no plans of starting a farm. Our plan was to buy CBD from one of the big suppliers, convert it over to water-soluble, make our products and sell them. What we did [was] we had samples sent in from all the major CBD suppliers. Very first thing we did was send it over to an EPA registered lab…we did full panel tests and even though the testing they sent us showed non-detectable levels of everything I’m about to tell you,this is what we found in the product we tested. At least one, if not all, of the following: pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides. One pesticide that kept popping up was glyphosate…”

Now if you didn’t know, glyphosate is a pesticide commonly found in products like RoundUp. Glyphosate has been linked to cancer as well as reproductive issues and various birth defects. I guess it’s safe to say it doesn’t belong anywhere in or around your body!

Besides glyphosate, Hugh shared with us that many other harmful chemicals and heavy metals like arsenic where found in these CBD samples. This alarming discovery motivated him to start his own farm and grow hemp, ensuring the purity and safety of CauseMedic’s products.
